Domestic Violence Specialist Counselor/Social Worker

General Description:

 

The Counselor/Social Worker is responsible for providing individual and group domestic violence counseling and crisis intervention services pertaining to family violence issues for adults and children.  The immediate supervisor of the Counselor/Social Worker is the Lead Domestic Specialist Counselor/Social Worker.  The position is full-time, exempt.

 

Duties:

 

  1. Responsible for the provision of counseling services to survivors of domestic violence, children affected by domestic violence and domestic violence offenders.

  2. Conduct client intakes and crisis intervention services as needed.

  3. Provide individual domestic violence services, to include assessment of client’s needs, development of a treatment plan with the client, ongoing treatment, maintenance of client files, collaboration with referral source and other providers, and follow-up services as deemed appropriate.

  4. Provide group domestic violence services, to include leading and directing group activities, provision of education and training that will assist clients in assuring safety and gaining life skills, and maintenance of client files for each group participant.

  5. Link survivors to other services, both internally with other COPE services and externally with other community resources as needed.

  6. Maintain client files in accordance with COPE policies and procedures.

  7. Participate in weekly supervision, staff meetings, in-service training and workshops as scheduled.

  8. Maintain regular contacts with other providers of service, including courts, legal services, probation, law enforcement, other social service agencies and schools, to assure efficient and effective service delivery.

  9. Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

Professional independent or non-independent licensure in New Mexico, with a Master’s degree in counseling or social work.  Bilingual preferred.  Training and experience in working with domestic violence issues is preferred. Must have a vehicle for use in the course of work, automobile insurance as required by agency policy and a valid driver’s license. Current COVID-19 vaccination required or must agree to obtain vaccination, with certain exceptions. Must provide information for a background check.
